Gordon B. Ruesch

Gordon B. Ruesch, 86, of West Springfield and Austerlitz, died Sunday at Bay State Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 21, 1920, son of Alfred and Electa Bailey Ruesch, he attended schools in Pittsfield and graduated from Bentley College, where he studied accounting.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a technical sergeant, and qualified as a rifle sharpshooter.

Mr. Ruesch was employed by Scovell Wellington & Co., now Coopers & Lybrand, as a certified public accountant from 1946 to 1964. He then joined William E. Wright Co. of West Warren, serving as treasurer from 1966 until retiring in 1985. He also served as controller and corporate secretary of the company and, for many years, was a trustee of its pension plan. He also was a director of its subsidiary, Trimtex Inc. of Williamsport, Pa. He was an accounting instructor from 1956 to 1968 in the evening division of Western New England College in Springfield.

He was a member of the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants and an honorary member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

He enjoyed gardening and spending time at the family cabin in the Berkshires.

He and his wife, the former Phyllis E. Loehr, were married 63 years.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Patricia A. Robbins of Holyoke and Susan E. Ruesch of Bristol, N.H.; two sons, Gordon P. Ruesch of Lexington and A. Robert Ruesch of Portland, Maine; a sister, Muriel Brown of Saxtons River, Vt.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gordon Ruesch, who died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007, will be Friday at 10 a.m. at TOOMEY-O'BRIEN FUNERAL HOME, 1043 Westfield St., West Springfield. Burial will follow in Village Cemetery in West Stockbridge.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Mr. Ruesch also leaves eight loving grandchildren, Jay M. Robbins III, Steve and Susan Robbins, Sara Peabody, Jennifer Dorsett, and Benjamin, Rebecca and Bailey Ruesch; seven loving great-grandchildren, Alicia, Jacob, Caitlyn, Timothy, Zachary and Bryanna Robbins, and Ayla Dorsett.

He was predeceased by his brother, Donald, and his sisters, Marion Robertson and Mildred Meacham.
