Barbara J. Ryan, 67, of 5 Jeffrey Drive, died Saturday at St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, Ariz.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 7, 1939, daughter of Raymond and Catherine Culverwell Allen, she attended local schools and was a 1957 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
She also attended Becker College in Worcester.
Primarily a homemaker, she worked for a time at the former St. Luke's Hospital. She also volunteered at Crosby School in the library.
A communicant of St. Teresa's Church, she was a member of its Rosary Sodality. She enjoyed traveling and reading.
She and her husband, Robert G. Ryan, celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on Sept. 26.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Michael R. Ryan of Boston, Mark R. Ryan of Wilmington, N.C., and Christopher J. Ryan of Providence, R.I.; two sisters, Sandra J. Allen of Pittsfield and Tina M. Barnini of Cheshire; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Barbara J. Ryan, who died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Teresa's Church celebrated by the Rev. Mark M. Mengel, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Teresa's Church in care of the funeral home.
She also leaves her grandchildren, Katie, Jon, Delaney and Norah Ryan; her sisters-in-law, Maureen Murray and Patricia Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
