Josephine F. Melikan, 93, of Chatham, formerly of Pittsfield, died at Liberty Commons Nursing Home in Chatham on Saturday.
Born in Manchester on March 29, 1913, daughter of Joseph Eulian and Susan Brockway Eulian, she moved to Pittsfield as a child and attended Pittsfield High School and the former Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. Melikan was employed by Eaton Paper Co. in the credit department.
She was a member of First Methodist Church and enjoyed ballroom dancing, bridge, bowling and golf.
In 1970, she and her husband, Arthur G. Melikan, moved to Garden City, S.C., where they belonged to Surfside Methodist Church.
She and her husband were married in 1935. He died in 1993. Mrs. Melikan remained in Garden City until 2002.
Mrs. Melikan leaves two sons, Dale A. Melikan of Orleans and Mark G. Melikan of Temple, Texas; a daughter, Marcia L. Kazior of Middletown, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Josephine F. Melikan, who died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, will be private. Contributions in her name may be made to Orleans Council on Aging, 150 Rock Harbor Road, Orleans, MA 02653.
Mrs. Melikan and her husband traveled extensively, including trips to China and Scandinavia. After moving to Orleans, where she had gone to be closer to her family, she enjoyed the day program at the Orleans Council on Aging and visits with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
