George G. Doucette Jr.

George G. Doucette Jr., 82, of Rockland Drive, died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Brighton on Jan. 18, 1925, son of George and Florence Martin Doucette, he was a 1943 graduate of Malden High School. He attended Holy Cross College and was a 1947 graduate of Union College.

He moved from Malden to this area in 1947.

He served as a Navy ensign during World War II.

Mr. Doucette was employed by General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1986 with 39 years of service.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, the Elfun Society, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and Wahconah Country Club.

He enjoyed traveling, classical music and the opera, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

He and his wife, the former Mary M. Quinn, were married Oct. 14, 1950, in St. Mark's Church.

Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Christine A. Smith of Hillsboro, W.Va., Elaine M. Myers of Adams, Ann M. Makowski of New Boston, N.H., and Jean F. Hamilton of Pittsfield; two brothers, Robert Doucette of Peabody and Edwin F. Doucette of San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Florence Joy of Malden, Mary Davin of Brighton, Ruth Magner of Gloucester, Sister Elaine Marie of St. Mary of the Woods, Ind., and Carol McDonnell of Newbury, Vt.; and nine grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George G. Doucette Jr., who died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, will be Monday, Feb. 26, at 10 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Mr. Doucette was a loving grandfather to Aaron, Patrick and Adam Cumashot, Lauren and John Myers, Thomas and Jenna Hamilton, and Paul and Daniel Makowski.

Memorial gifts may be made to Sacred Heart Church, in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Reynolds and Jean Mastrangelo.
