Robert Leslie Stegner, 76, of 17 Pine Grove Drive, died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., son of Frank C. and Susan Self Stegner, he was a 1948 graduate of New Rochelle (N.Y.) High School, and attended Champlain College in Plattsburg, N.Y., for three years.
He received a bachelor's degree from the University of St. Lawrence.
An Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he served from 1954 to 1962 and was given the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Stegner owned and operated Dalton Tire Mart and DTM Auto Service from 1976, retiring in 2001. Before that, he was employed by Beloit-Jones.
He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, camping and woodworking.
His wife, the former Barbara Jean Rice, whom he married June 5, 1954, died Aug. 22, 2003.
Mr. Stegner leaves a son, Robert R. Stegner of Pittsfield; three daughters, Deborah S. Weber of Lanesborough and Laura A. Stegner and Michelle L. Stegner, both of Pittsfield; and seven grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Robert Leslie Stegner, who died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2007, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, conducted by the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire William Chapel. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Stegner may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Stegner also leaves his son-in-law, Michael Weber; his daughter-in-law, Kim Stegner; his grandchildren, Tom, Eric, Heidi, Katie, Kasey, Chelsea and Elijah; and his two favorite pets, his dog Karllee and cat Nimbus.
