Susan E. McEwen, 59, of 79 Harvard St., died Sunday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had resided since Jan. 27.
Born in Hempstead, N.Y., on Jan. 10, 1948, daughter of the late Dr. William P. and Marjorie Postle McEwen, she had resided in Pittsfield for the past 12 years.
Before that, she had resided in Becket for many years.
She was educated in Hempstead, N.Y., schools and was a 1966 graduate of Waldorf High School in Garden City, N.Y. She also attended Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y.
Ms. McEwen was a homemaker.
She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, drawing, painting and making artwork with pressed flowers. She also loved animals.
She leaves a brother, William B. McEwen of Peru, and a sister, Purr McEwen of Becket.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Susie McEwen died Sunday, March 4, 2007. At Susie's request, following cremation, burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Despite a lifetime of illness and disabilities, Susie was a warm and caring person, whose bright smile and sunny disposition endeared her to all. She loved children, especially her nieces and nephews, Chuck Garman, Amy Manning and Molly and Kyle McEwen and her friends and family.
She was also predeceased by a brother, Peter S. McEwen, who died Jan. 4, 2005. Her family would like to thank the many health care workers who made Susie's independent life possible. This was her fondest desire. In particular, they would like to thank HospiceCare in the Berkshires for giving her the highest quality of life possible in her final months.
Memorial donations in her memory may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires in care of the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
