Dorothy Alice Janes

Dorothy Alice Janes, 87, of 140 Melbourne Road, Melbourne Place, died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on June 11, 1919, daughter of Henry O. and Leone Potter Goddeau, she attended local schools.

Mrs. Janes was employed by Berkshire Medical Center as a telephone operator for 26 years, retiring in 1984. Before that, she was a telephone operator at the former St. Luke's Hospital.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed reading, music, singing and traveling.

Her husband, Thomas B. Janes, whom she married June 9, 1936, at Sacred Heart Church, died July 30, 2001.

She leaves two daughters, Jacquelyn L. Weatherwax of Pittsfield and Mary Jo Romero of Castro Valley, Calif.; a brother, James "Tex" Goddeau of Pittsfield; and a sister, Geraldine "Geri" Nimmons of Pittsfield; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Her son, Tommy Janes, died Aug. 3, 2004.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Dorothy A. Goddeau Janes, who died March 24, 2007, will be Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church celebrated by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders, in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Janes is lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Kent Weatherwax, Beth Bolus, Jane Anglin and Nicolas Romero; her beloved great-grandchildren, Jacquelyn Powers, Shaunna and Anthony Brogan, Mary and Sean Anglin, and Dylan Carmel; and a great-great-granddaughter, Madelyn Powers.

She also leaves her devoted son-in-law, Willie Romero. She was predeceased by her brothers John and Donald Goddeau, by her sisters Helen Britigan, Jean Weatherwax and Theresa Goddeau, and by a son-in-law, John Weatherwax.
