Gary M. Reid, 72, of 245 Cheshire Road, died Saturday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 5, 1934, son of Francis and Olive Trembley Reid, he was educated in local schools.
A Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, he was stationed in Japan.
Mr. Reid was a self-employed union painter, retiring in 2006. Previously, he was a police officer with the San Bernardino (Calif.) Police Department.
A master carpenter, he built furniture. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, oil painting, computers and sports.
He leaves two daughters, Sharron Alexander of Tularey, Calif., and Shannon Trainor of Buena Park, Calif.; a sister, Beverly Morin of Dalton; five grandchildren; and his longtime companion, Ruth Hover, with whom he resided.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Gary M. Reid, who died Saturday, March 31, 2007, will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Those attending are invited to meet inside the cemetery gate at 12:45 p.m.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Reid may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Reid also leaves his companion's children, Michael and Karen North, R.J. Hover and his fiancée, Crystal, Ronald Hover and Jennifer, and Brenda and Fred Conyers. He was predeceased by two brothers, David and Donald Reid, and by his companion's son, Douglas Starbird Sr.
