James E. Stimpson

March 26, 2007

James E. Stimpson, 68, of Largo, Fla., formerly of Pittsfield, died March 26 at Largo (Fla.) Medical Center following a short illness.

Born in Ticonderoga, N.Y., on Feb 7, 1939, son of Raymond and Catherine Gregory Stimpson, he came to Pittsfield as a child and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1956.

He also graduated from American Institute of Paralegal Studies in New York.

Mr. Stimpson was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

He and his companion, Virginia Livingston, owned and operated Ginny's Lawn Care, a business in Largo. He was a self-employed entrepreneur for most of his life.

His wife, the former Doris Evans, died in 2003.

Mr. Stimpson leaves five daughters, Tamra Hunt, Tracie Melendez and Jody Stimpson, all of Pittsfield, Catherine Staggemeyer of Eitzen, Minn., and Laura Clairmont of Kentucky; three sons, James M. and Jack Stimpson, both of Pittsfield, and David Stimpson of North Adams; two sisters, Betty Sacco and Joyce Reed, both of Pittsfield; a brother, Richard Burrows of Pittsfield; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Joyce House Stimpson.

His stepfather, Charles Burrows, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Memorial services for James Stimpson, who died Monday, March 26, 2007, will be conducted for all friends and family at the Church Of Christ, 826 Valentine Road, Pittsfield, on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Russell Moody, pastor, will be conducting the service.

Mr. Stimpson also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brothers, Norman and Charles Stimpson, and his sister, Marian Morin.
