Mario L. "Mickey" Panetti

Mario L. "Mickey" Panetti, 81, of 112 Oliver Ave., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 25, 1925, son of Giovanni and Susan Candilore Panetti, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. He later graduated from the University of Massachusetts, where he received an associate's degree in chemical engineering.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific.
Mr. Panetti was employed by Reichold Chemical Co. in Carteret, N.J., for 2 1/2 years, retiring in 1983 as manager of quality assurance. Before that, he was employed by General Electric Co. in the plastic division for 32 years and at S&K Design Group.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed gardening and genealogy.
He and his wife, the former Alma R. Winnard, were married Sept. 23, 1950, at Notre Dame Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Mario A. Panetti of Pittsfield and Mark W. Panetti of Marlton, N.J.; two daughters, Patricia A. Plankey of Blackstone and Joanna M. O'Brien of Lee; a brother, John Panetti of Pittsfield; two sisters, Anna Coury and Barbara Lazzari, both of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mario L. "Mickey" Panetti, who died Saturday, April 14, 2007, will be conducted Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials in his memory be made to the Elks Lodge 272 in care of the funeral home. The Lodge of Sorrows Ritual by the Elks Lodge will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Panetti is lovingly survived by his six grandchildren, Dale, Drew, Alexa and Jason Panetti, Sarah Schultz and Stephen Gale, and by a great-granddaughter, Lexi Schultz. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Dr. Tracee Panetti, and a son-in-law, Michael O'Brien.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Panetti and Elizabeth Nugai.
