Anna Assunta Allessio Carnevale

Anna Assunta Allessio Carnevale, 91, of 26 Roosevelt Ave., South Hadley, formerly of the Lakewood section of Pittsfield, died Monday at Wingate of South Hadley, where she had resided since 2003.

She moved to South Hadley in 1988 to reside with her daughter, Madeline A. Carnevale-Calabrese.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 30, 1915, daughter of Michael and Delphina Allessio Allessio, she attended Pittsfield schools and was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mrs. Carnevale was a homemaker. She was playground leader and life guard at Goodrich Pond in Lakewood.

She was a member of Grace Congregational Church in Pittsfield and its Women's Bible study group.

She was a member of the Senior Center in South Hadley, where she knitted lap blankets for hospitalized veterans. She enjoyed gardening and canning.

She and Anthony Carnevale were married at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Feb. 8, 1942. He died Aug. 30, 1991.

Besides her daughter, Mrs. Carnevale leaves two sons, George A. Carnevale of Dallas, and Charles P. Carnevale of Largo, Fla.; a brother, Michael Allessio of Pittsfield; and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Anna A. Allessio Carnevale, who died Monday, April 16, 2007, will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Congregational Church, 1055 Williams St., Pittsfield, the Rev. Thomas Bridgman, pastor, officiating. A viewing at the church will be held Friday at 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Pittsfield. Calling hours at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Flowers may be sent, or memorials may be made to Grace Congregational Church in her memory, in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Carnevale is lovingly survived by her five grandchildren, Marie Bond, Luke Carnevale, Julie Cassol, Bryan and Grant Carnevale. She also leaves her devoted son-in-law Joseph Calabrese, and two daughters-in-law, Norine and Kathy Carnevale. Anna was born on Brattlebrook Farm in Lakewood where there were plenty of opportunities for hard work and ventures selling produce.

She was predeceased by six brothers, Henry, John, Eugene, William, Mario and Ferdinand Allessio and by five sisters, Norma Ballardini, Demira Marchisio, Josephine Testa, Emma Principe and Sister Mary Camilla Allessio.
