Charles Henry Slater, 92, of 60 Herie Ave. died Sunday at Side by Side assisted-living facility on Onota Street, where he had resided since January.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 5, 1914, son of Henry E. and Florence Gildrie Slater, he attended local schools.
Mr. Slater was employed by General Electric Co. for 44 years, retiring in 1973 as a tool and die maker.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century, Pensioners' and Trailer clubs. He enjoyed mechanics and yard work.
His wife, the former Ida B. Garrett, whom he married Sept. 10, 1935, died Jan. 4, 1997.
He leaves a daughter, Arlene M. Gibney of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother, Carl E. Slater of Pittsfield; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Charles H. Slater, who died Sunday, April 22, 2007, will be conducted tomorrow, April 25, at 1 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Dr. Robert M. Rennie, pastor of First Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home tomorrow from noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Slater is lovingly survived by two grandchildren, Charles W. Gibney of Rock Hill, S.C., and Eileen K. Wales of Pittsfield; four great-grandchildren, Paul W. Wales, and Abbagale A., Maggie R. and Charles J. Gibney; his son-in-law, William A. Gibney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five sisters, Marie Slater, Rose Poulton, Beatrice Driscoll, Anna Phillips and Beaulah Lawrence.
