Dorothy G. Cardell, 89, of 1025 Williams St., died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she resided since February.
Born in North Adams on Nov. 9, 1917, daughter of Harold and Thelma Grant Burdick, she was a 1935 graduate of Drury High School and a graduate of Boston Lying-in Hospital's School of Nursing.
She lived in Phoenix before moving to Pittsfield in 1968.
A registered nurse, Mrs. Cardell was employed by the former Hillcrest Hospital and by hospitals in the Boston area.
She was a member of St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox and the Dalton CRA, and a former member of the Sweet Adelines.
She enjoyed fitness classes, swimming and dancing.
Her husband, Robert J. Cardell, whom she married April 12, 1952, in Pittsfield, died Nov. 4, 2002.
She leaves two daughters, Roberta C. Francis of Hinsdale and Kathryn J. Cardell of Pittsfield; a brother, John Burdick of North Adams; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Dorothy G. Cardell, who died Modnay, April 23, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Helena's Chapel in Lenox by the Rev. Daina Salnitis, pastor. Burial will take place at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A devoted mother and grandmother, Mrs. Cardell also leaves her three grandchildren, Audrey G. Kendig, Burton Spencer Francis IV and Erik Francis; her great-grandson, Lloyd Kendig; and her son-in-law, Burton Spencer Francis III.
Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. She also was predeceased by a brother, Monroe Burdick.
