Nils Guttormsen

Nils Guttormsen, 88, of 53 Pinehurst Ave., died Monday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where he had lived for a short time.

Born in Pittsfield on May 30, 1918, son of Nils and Martha Faeste Guttormsen, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Guttormsen was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer department as an accounting specialist for 45 years.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and was active at St. George's Episcopal Church in Lee, where he was in the choir, vestry and served as the sexton and treasurer emeritus for many years.

He was also past president of the Lee Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, tennis, golf, bird watching and all things chocolate. He played trumpet with the Sammy Vincent orchestra, the Eagles Band and other Berkshire County ensembles.

Mr. Guttormsen leaves two daughters, Kathy Guttormsen of Pittsfield and Debra Guttormsen of Waltham; two sons, Robert Guttormsen of Altus, Okla., and Eric Guttormsen of New York City; two sisters, Ruth Ecklund of Wooddale, Ill., and Elizabeth Watt of Pittsfield; and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Nils Guttormsen, who died Monday, May 7, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Hannah Anderson of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. There will be an hour of visitation from noon until the time of service.

He leaves grandchildren, Kara Tims and her husband Tyler, Adam Guttormsen and Molly Guttormsen; and a cousin, Theodore Eskild of Palmyra, N.Y. Donations in his memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, Elder Services of Berkshire County, or to Friends of Renal Dialysis, care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

At 88, he was still looking forward to a ride in a vintage airplane. A sister, Evelyn Petersen, and a brother, Dwight Guttormsen, are deceased.
