Adrien "Pete" Chalifoux, 77, of 151 Wahconah St., died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was the former owner and operator of Adrien's Diner on Wahconah Street.
Born in Adams on June 18, 1929, son of Joseph and Anna Bishop Chalifoux, he graduated from Drury High School.
He was an Army veteran.
Mr. Chalifoux opened the Paradise Restaurant on North Street in 1957, earning him the nickname "Paradise Pete." In 1971, he moved the restaurant to Wahconah Street under the new name, Adrien's Diner. He and his wife, the former Carolyn Corl, owned and operated the diner until his granddaughter, Tammy, and her husband, Billy McGovern, purchased it in 2002.
He enjoyed horse racing and trips to Off-Track Betting.
Mr. Chalifoux and his wife were married May 5, 1956, in St. Joseph's Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Doreen Horton of Windsor and Anna Miller of Pittsfield; a stepson, Edward Powers; two sisters, Roma Trzpis and Adrienne Bassilian of Boyington Beach, Fla.; a stepbrother, Raymond Bishop of Florida; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Adrien Chalifoux died in Pittsfield on Saturday, June 2, 2007. He was the beloved grandfather of Tricia, Tammy, EJ, Brandon, Dave, Matt and Karen, the beloved great-grandfather of Averie, father-in-law to Carol Powers, David Horton and Terry Miller.
In keeping with Mr. Chalifoux's wishes, the funeral service for the family will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jimmy Fund or the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.
