Ernestina B. Grimaldi, 85, of 894 West Housatonic St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 28, 1921, daughter of Samuel and Mary DiPaula Bilotta, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1939.
Mrs. Grimaldi was employed by Berkshire Training and Employment Program for 16 years as a secretary, retiring in 1997. Before that, she worked for the former Gordon Electric Co. for 23 years.
She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and past president of the Lions Auxiliary.
She was a notary public and a longtime volunteer for the American Cancer Society and other organizations. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, cooking, gardening and growing flowers.
Her husband, Joseph J. Grimaldi, died Sept. 7, 1975. They were married Sept. 28, 1939, at Mount Carmel Church.
She leaves a son, Alan J. Grimaldi of Pittsfield; a daughter, Anne M. Carrano of Amherst; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Ernestina B. "Ernie" Grimaldi, who died Saturday, June 9, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the family plot. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. She was the loving grandmother of Carl, Gary, Damian and Gina Carrano, and great-grandmother of Dominic Carrano.
She also leaves a son-in-law, Anthony Carrano. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Bilotta Sr., and four sisters, Antoinette Provenzano, Elena Blache, Rose Stockley and Mary Bigelow.
