Phoebe M. Phelan, 94, of 169 Valentine Road, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Stockbridge on April 16, 1913, daughter of David J. and Delia Bray Garnham, she was educated in local schools and was a 1931 graduate of Lee High School.
Mrs. Phelan was the secretary and treasurer of the former Fahey Drug Corp., and later, when it became Ryan Drug. She retired in the late 1970s.
She was a former longtime communicant of St. Joseph's Church and she enjoyed knitting and walking.
She and her husband, Thomas H. Phelan, were married April 15, 1939. He died June 15, 1977.
Mrs. Phelan leaves a son, Thomas J. Phelan of Bow, N.H.; three granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Phoebe M. Phelan, who died Thursday, June 14, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Lee. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, Sandra Stanton, Sheila Scharer and Sharon Meaney; and her five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Joan A. Phelan; her brothers, George and Joseph P. Garnham; and her sisters, Gladys Fitzpatrick, Emily McCoy and Ruth Rapp.
