Alfred P. Salomone Sr.

Alfred P. Salomone Sr., 86, of Stratford Avenue died Sunday at Mercy Hospital in Springfield.

Born in Plainville, Conn., on Dec. 16, 1920, son of John D. and Carmela Roberto Salomone, he graduated from Catholic University in Washington, D.C., in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.

During World War II, he served in the Navy Air Corps as an aviator with a fighter and bomber squadron assigned to the Pacific theater. He also served as a lieutenant in the Navy Reserve.

Mr. Salomone was employed by General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer from 1951 to 1987.

He was a member of Italian-American Club 554 and enjoyed playing bridge and tennis, and fishing. He was a Red Sox fan.

His wife, the former, Mary Agnes Repetti, is deceased.

He leaves three sons, Alfred P. Salomone Jr. of Sharon, Thomas A. Salomone of Wilbraham and Mark E. Salomone of Longmeadow; two daughters, Gail Salomone and Donna M. Penna, both of Pittsfield; two brothers, Louis Salomone of Culver City, Calif., and Frank Salomone of Eastham; a sister, Rose Emond of Norfolk, Va.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Another son, Ronald J. Salomone, is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Alfred P. Salomone Sr. will be Friday, July 6, 2007, at 10 a.m. at BAILEY FUNERAL HOME, 48 Broad St. Plainville, Conn., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Plainville, Conn. Family and friends may gather Thursday, July 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alfred's family would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to Enfield (Conn.) Dialysis; the staff at Dr. Philip Glynn's office; the staff at Dr. Francis Lee's office; his renal doctors, especially Dr. Greco and Dr. Sweet; and the staff of the urology unit on the fifth floor of Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Alfred also leaves his daughters-in-law, Elizabeth and Kathleen Salomone; his son-in-law Michael D. Penna; the mother of his grandchild, Parker Salomone; his grandchildren, Peter and Michael Salomone, Anita Deeley, Eileen Owen, Dr. Laura Carr, Alanna Madru, Joseph Salomone, Mina, Dennis, Audrey and Mary Penna, Mark Jr., Ryan, Ted and Parker Salomone, Jennifer, Amy and Jesse; great-grandchildren, Mileena and Nathan Owen, Finnegan Deeley, Bella Rose and Maddalina Penna; and several nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as "Gramps" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
