Marjorie M. Campbell

Marjorie M. Campbell, 90, of 274 Eleanor Road died Wednesday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.

She served on the Pittsfield Council on Aging and was a member of the Pittsfield Boys' and Girls' Club board.

Born in Pittsfield on June 8, 1917, daughter of Louis A. and Rose Soutier Viner, she was a 1935 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1938 graduate of the former St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Campbell worked as a staff nurse and as a private-duty nurse at the former St. Luke's, Hillcrest and Pittsfield General hospitals, now Berkshire Medical Center, and then 26 years at the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association. She retired at age 62.

She was a communicant of St. Mark's Church and a member of the St. Luke's Alumni Association and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was a past vice president and president of the Golden Seniors and a board member of the local AARP chapter. She also volunteered at the election polls and for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and cooking.

She and her husband, Raymond F. Campbell, celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary June 22. They were married at St. Joseph's Church.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Richard F. Campbell of Hockessin, Del.; a daughter, Kathleen M. Filippini of Pittsfield; a sister, Rosemary Chaiffre of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marjorie M. Campbell, who died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, will be Saturday, July 21, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Mark's Church celebrated by the Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Campbell may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
