Edward Holmes Mitchell Jr., 70, of Lynchburg, Va., died Saturday at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born in Teaneck, N.J., on Feb. 15, 1937, son of Edward H. Mitchell Sr. and Charlotte Idella Mitchell, he was raised in Pittsfield.
Mr. Mitchell was an Air Force and Army veteran.
He was at one time employed by General Electric Co.
He attended Tree of Life Ministries and was a golfer, belonging to Ivy Hills Country Club.
He leaves his wife, Carmen D. Mitchell.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Edward H. Mitchell III of Lynchburg, Va., Michael M. Mitchell of Virginia Beach, Va., and Marcus M. Mitchell Lynchburg and a daughter, Melicarme Mitchell Davidson of Lynchburg, Va.; and seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Jeanne E. McCarron of Pittsfield and Melissa M. Tomlin of Monroe, Va.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services celebrating the life of Edward Holmes Mitchell Jr., who died Saturday, July 28, 2007 will be conducted 11 a.m. tomorrow at DIUGUID FUNERAL SERVICE AND CREMATORY, Waterlick Chapel, with the Rev. Mike Dodson officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.diuguidfuneralservice.com. He also leaves a daughter-in-law, Lindsey Mitchell of Lynchburg; and seven grandchildren, Kevin, Carmen, Jennifer, Meghan, Abby, Summer and Kayley.
Mr. Mitchell recently returned to Pittsfield for a Mitchell family reunion where he had a wonderful time visiting relatives, friends and seeing the places he grew up. We, the family, give thanks to the Lord for providing Ed this opportunity.
