Cecile L. Lindsay, 86, of Canterbury Arms Apartments in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
She was the mother of Janvier W. Lindsay III of Pittsfield.
Born in Holyoke on July 17, 1921, daughter of Joseph N. A. and Aldina Masse Lajoie, she was raised in Granby. and graduated from South Hadley High School. She moved to Chicopee Falls in 1954, and in 1990 moved to Canterbury Arms Apartments.
She was employed by Pall Blade Co. in Holyoke during World War II and later worked at the former Forbes & Wallace Department Store on Memorial Drive in Chicopee. She also worked at the former Ren Electronics and the TRW Electronics, both in the Fairview section of Chicopee. She last worked at the former Burger King Restaurant on Memorial Drive in Chicopee Falls, retiring in 1995.
She was a communicant of St. Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville.
She was also a longtime volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Chicopee, through which she knitted hundreds of hats each year for underprivileged children. She received the Presidential Award for her many years of service.
Her husband, Janvier W. "Doc" Lindsay Jr. died Dec. 10, 1972.
Besides her son, she leaves another son, Donald J. Lindsay of Chicopee; a brother, Joseph Lajoie of Granby; and a granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Cecile L. Lindsay, who died Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the ST. PIERRE-PHANEUF ALDENVILLE CHAPELS (413-532-9806), 13 Dale St. (at the junction of Grattan Street) in Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Saint Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St. in the Aldenville section of Chicopee.
Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen St. in Aldenville. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home in the Rose Chapel on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home off of Lafayette Street. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
She also leaves her cherished granddaughter, Elizabeth A. Lindsay of Chicopee; her daughters-in-law, Kimberly (Janvier) Lindsay, and Christine (Donald) Lindsay; a sister-in-law, Cecile Lajoie; a brother-in-law, George Dugre of Chicopee; her dear nephews and nieces, Michael Lajoie and his wife, Karen, James Lajoie and his wife, Missy, Gerald Dugre and his wife, Linda and Doris Desilet and her husband, Roger, all of Chicopee and Theresa Lajoie of Granby.
She was predeceased by her dear sister, Rita Dugre.
