Richard Austin Anderson

Richard Austin Anderson, 65, of Muskellunge Bay Lane, Sackets Harbor, N.Y., a native of Pittsfield, died of cancer Saturday at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, N.Y.

Born on May 27, 1942, son of Walter and Miriam Austin Anderson, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1960 and received an associate degree from Wentworth University in Boston in 1962.

He also received a bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University.

A Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he served as an engineer with the Seabees for two years, including five months in Spain and eight months in Vietnam.

Mr. Anderson was a civil engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers at Fort Drum, N.Y., for 20 years, retiring in 2005.

He enjoyed skiing, kayaking and biking.

He and his wife, the former Linda Gayle Kluge, were married Sept. 3, 1966 in Amherst. They lived at Riverbend Estates in Watertown, N.Y., for 17 years.

Besides his wife, he leaves a brother, Thomas J. Anderson of Richmond, and a sister, Marcia E. Anderson of Pittsfield.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Richard A. Anderson, who died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, will be Friday, Aug. 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the home of is brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Lois Anderson of 226 Old Post Road, Colonial Acres, Richmond, Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Habit for Humanity, 11 Public Square, Watertown, NY 13601. Funeral arrangements have been made with HART & BRUCE FUNERAL HOME in Watertown, N.Y. He also leaves a niece and two nephews.
