Catherine Sophie Soldo, 69, of 14 Leidhold Place, died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Cheshire on Dec. 22, 1937, daughter of John J. and Mary Cravish Soldo, she attended Pittsfield schools.
Ms. Soldo owned and operated Court Square Luncheonette for 10 years, selling the business in 1976. She then went to work as a waitress at the Highland Restaurant for many years. From August 1986 to June 1992, she was employed by the City of Pittsfield as a parking control officer.
Ms. Soldo was a longtime volunteer who was actively involved in many fundraising activities to benefit children of the community. She was a member of the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund where she served as vice president, and, for many years, organized its variety shows. She was actively involved in the Pittsfield DARE program, and served on the board of directors of Citizens Against Child Abuse and was involved in its annual Doo Wah Days programs. She also served on the board of directors of the Berkshire County Association for Retarded Citizens. She was a Boston Red Sox fan, and enjoyed bingo and camping.
Ms. Soldo leaves a brother, James S. Soldo of Pittsfield; and two sisters, Joyce A. Phillips and Linda L. Patterson, both of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Catherine "Cathy" Sophie Soldo, who died Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles' Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Cathy may be made to the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Miss Soldo also leaves many nieces and nephews, including 21 great-nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Shirley "Sam" Soldo; and her longtime friend, Josh Gumula of Pittsfield. A brother, John R. Soldo, died May 28, 1998.
