Helen M. Gugino, 87, of 2865 Mizzen Way, Naples, Fla., a Pittsfield native, died Thursday at home.
Born May 26, 1920, daughter of Joseph and Marcelina Garcia Flores Guitian, she graduated in 1937 from Pittsfield High School and in 1939 from St. Luke's School of Nursing.
She also earned a bachelor's degree in nursing from Russel Sage College.
Mrs. Gugino was employed as a registered nurse by the former St. Luke's Hospital (now Berkshire Medical Center). She had also been a school nurse for the Soutern Berkshire Regional School District. She also worked as a private nurse.
In Pittsfield, she was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. In Florida, she was a member of Renew, a church group.
She and her husband, Joseph S. Gugino, were married Nov. 27, 1945.
Besides her husband, she leaves four daughters, Arlene Molina of Merida Yucatan, Mexico, Mary Hebert of Pittsfield, Marcie Stanley of Dallas and Jayne Larkin, with whom she resided; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Helen M. Gugino, who died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, will be private, with burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Mrs. Gugino was a very spiritual person. She also held a strong belief in education. She found great joy in being with her family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Gugino may be made to the Massachusetts Citizens for Life in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield. Mrs. Gugino was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Guitian of Pittsfield.
