Elizabeth Rose Plant

August 19, 2007

Elizabeth Rose Plant, 87, of Melbourne Place died Sunday at home.

Born in Elmira, N.Y., on Feb. 20, 1920, daughter of Stephen and Harriet Bishop Rose, she attended Elmira schools and Northfield Seminary, and graduated from Wellesley College.

Mrs. Plant was employed by the Reformatory for Women in Framingham as assistant education director. She later became a full-time homemaker. Later, her husband's career took them to Pennsylvania, New Jersey and finally to Stockbridge, where they resided for 35 years before moving to Melbourne Place in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Plant was active in the community as a volunteer. While in Stockbridge, she was a member of the First Congregational Church, serving on various boards and as treasurer of the Service League.

She was also a member of and a past president of Wellesley-in-the-Berkshires. She enjoyed Christmas, autumn weather, walks in the woods, laughter, hosting family gatherings, sailing, reading, music and the animals that shared her home. She was also a fan of the Boston Red Sox.

She and her husband, John Plant, would have celebrated their 63rd anniversary on Oct. 28.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons; John Plant Jr. of Montréal and Robert Plant of Stockbridge; two daughters, Mary Plant of Arlington, Va., and Helen Pratt of Kirriemuir, Scotland; and two grandchildren.

A son, William Plant, died as a young child.

A brother and three sisters are deceased. Her greatest regret was in not being able to carry a tune.
