Helene V. Carmel, 98, formerly of Calumet St., died Monday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Huntington on June 27, 1909, daughter of Napoleon and Adeline Boudreau Carmel, she was a 1927 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1931 graduate of Salem State College, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in education.
She was employed by Pittsfield High School as a teacher for 39 years, retiring in 1970.
Ms. Carmel was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church. She was a member of the Massachusetts Retired Teachers Association, the Berkshire County Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Association.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Helene V. Carmel, who died Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, will be held Friday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, celebrated by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
She was predeceased by a sister, Doris R. Carmel; a brother, Robert W. Carmel, who was killed the last day of World War II; and a faithful friend, Maureen Conway of Port Orange, Fla.
