Santina "Sandy" Carpino

Santina "Sandy" Carpino, 80, of 20 Baldwin St., Watertown, Conn., died Monday at her home.

Born in Pittsfield, on Nov. 1, 1926, daughter of Joseph and Theresa Vallone Zofrea, she graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield.

She was employed as a registered nurse at Waterbury Hospital for 26 years. She also provided private nursing care and worked part-time at The Taft School infirmary.

She was an active communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church and a member of its choir.

She was also a longtime volunteer at the Bethlehem Fair. She enjoyed sporting events, bingo and tag sales.

She leaves her husband of 57 years, Richard E. Carpino, whom she married on June 17, 1950.

Besides her husband, she leaves six sons, Rick Carpino of Southbury, Conn., Lou Carpino, Joe Carpino and Dave Carpino, all of Watertown, Conn., Ed Carpino of Milford, Conn., Robert Carpino of Nashua, N.H.; two daughters, Theresa Pizzano of Simi Valley, Calif., and Santina Capece of Watertown, Conn.; a brother, Joseph Zofrea of Pittsfield; a sister, Kay Fish of Rutland, Vt.; and 18 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass for Santina "Sandy" Carpino, who died Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, will be held tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, Watertown, Conn. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Watertown, Conn.

Calling hours are Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at HICKCOX FUNERAL HOME, Main Street, Watertown, Conn. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Santina Carpino Memorial Scholarship Fund, care of CARPINO FUNERAL HOME, 750 Main St. South, Southbury, CT 06488. She loved family gatherings and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

She leaves 18 beloved grandchildren, who will miss their Nana very much. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by two brothers, Louis Zofrea and Fran Zofrea; and two sisters, Carmina Troy and Mary Allard.
