Samuel Vincent, 92, of Boca Raton, Fla., died there Sunday at Hospice by the Sea Care Center.
Mr. Vincent operated Sammy Vincent's music store in Pittsfield for many years until relocating to Boca Raton in 1964
Born in Rome, N.Y., on Nov. 1, 1914, son of Ralph and Catherine Voci Vincent, he attended schools there.
His band, Sammy Vincent and his Orchestra, performed in the Berkshires and surrounding areas for many years. He hired Florence Marco as his vocalist, and she became his wife in September 1939. She died in 2001.
While in Florida, he opened Vincent's Music Center in 1964 and built the Vincent Building on South Federal Highway. Later, he moved the business across the street into Royal Palm Plaza. In 1973, he turned over the business to his son, Robert Vincent, and began a real estate career. He began at Royal Palm Realty and after becoming employed by Arvida Realty Sales, became one of its top performers. He retired in 1989.
He was a communicant of Ascension Church in Boca Raton and enjoyed playing golf.
He leaves a daughter, Janis Phillips of Boca Raton; two sisters, Mary Paquette and Marietta Spazioso, both of Pittsfield; and a granddaughter.
His son, Robert, died in 2000.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Samuel Vincent, who died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton, Fla. Entombment will follow at the Boca Raton Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at BABIONE FUNERAL HOME (East Chapel).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice by the Sea Care Center, 1531 W. Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486-3395. He also leaves a son-in law, Lon Phillips; and a granddaughter, Lindsay Phillips of Chicago.
