Frances J. Stevenson, 88, of 63 Third St. died Friday at home.
Born in Garnet, S.C., on Oct. 23, 1918, daughter of Joseph and Menetha Washington Jenkins, she was educated in South Carolina schools and earned a bachelor's degree in home economics from South Carolina State University.
Mrs. Stevenson was employed as a nurse at Berkshire Medical Center for 15 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of AME Zion Church and of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary.
She and her husband, Samuel Nicholas Stevenson, would have celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary Nov. 2. They were married in Garnet.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Samuel J. Stevenson of Lincoln; two daughters, Naomi Stevenson of Elmira, N.Y., and Theresa Stevenson of Pittsfield; a brother, Joseph Jenkins of Harlem, N.Y.; and two sisters, Annie Bates of Greenville, S.C., and Helen Bryant of Savannah, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, a memorial service for Frances J. Stevenson, who died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 50 Onota St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Willard Durant.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield is in charge of arrangements. She also leaves nieces, nephews and cousins.
