Gladys A. Spring

Gladys A. Spring, 82, formerly of Columbia Arms Apartments, died yesterday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided since March.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 8, 1925, daughter of Raymond A. and Grace Williams Sykes, she was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Spring was employed by the former Adams Super Market on Williams Street as office manager for more than 25 years, retiring when Big Y bought the company in 1984.
She was a member of United Methodist Church of Lenox and enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and sports, especially the Boston Red Sox.
Her husband, Herbert R. Spring, whom she married May 12, 1946, at First United Methodist Church, died Nov. 10, 1995.
She leaves two sons, Ronald H. Spring of Pittsfield and Gary S. Spring of Danvers; a sister, Evelyn Stockley of Williamstown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Gladys A. Spring, who died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, will be conducted Wednesday at noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, by the Rev. Valerie Roberts-Toler, pastor of United Methodist Church of Lenox. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Spring enjoyed being with her family. She also leaves her four beloved grandchildren, Dana, Pam, Mitch and Molly Spring, and her three great-grandchildren, Katherine, Sarah and Rebecca Spring; and two daughters-in-law, Elda Spring and Nancy Marshall.
She was predeceased by her brother, Raymond Sykes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home.
