Peter Thomas Niarchos

Peter Thomas Niarchos, 87, of 28 Melecca Ave. died Sunday at Williamstown Commons, where he had resided for three months.
Born in Chicopee Falls on Sept. 16, 1920, son of Thomas and Helen Petras Niarchos, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1950 graduate of Clark University, where he earned an associate degree in business administration and lettered in tennis.
A World War II veteran, he served with the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946.
Mr. Niarchos was employed by General Electric Co. as a foreman in the regulators and transformers department, retiring in 1985 with 40 years of service.
He was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church and of its American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association men's group, of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and of Wahconah Country Club, where he played golf.
He and his wife, the former Georgia Spring, were married May 20, 1951.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Peter Niarchos of Williston, Vt.; a brother, Dean T. Niarchos of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Peter Thomas Niarchos, who died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, will be Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a service celebrated at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church by the Rev. Constantine C. Cambas.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Niarchos may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Niarchos also leaves his grandchildren, Paige and Mitchell. He was predeceased by four brothers, John, Steven, George and Michael, and by his sister, Lola.
