Severino A. Marchetto, 85

December 03, 2007

PITTSFIELD - Severino Anthony Marchetto, 85, formerly of 234 Cheshire Road, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided for seven years. He was a co-founder of Marland Mold Co.

Born in West Stockbridge on Sept. 4, 1922, son of Alessandro and Maria Maule Marchetto, he was a 1940 pro merito graduate of Pittsfield High School.

Mr. Marchetto was a tool and die maker and was recognized as a leader in advancing the growth of the machine tool and plastics industry in the region during the decades following World War II. He and his brother-in-law, the late Paul E. Ferland, founded the mold company on Oct. 6, 1946. The name was a composition of their first and last names.

They began operation in a 12-by-22-foot shop at the site of the former Tillotson Mill on Fourth Street. On March 15, 1947, they formed a partnership with three others, including Mr. Marchetto's brother, the late Valentino Marchetto. They relocated to Newell Street in 1949 and to the site of the former Russell Mill on Peck's Road in 1960. Ethyl Corp. purchased the company in 1974. Later, Marland was spun off as part of the Tredegar Group, and in 1992, the employees purchased the company, renaming it Marland Mold.

Mr. Marchetto was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church.

He was a woodworker and clockmaker and enjoyed boating and water-skiing.

He and his wife, the former Rose A. Adornetto, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 4.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David Marchetto and his wife, Kathryn, of Harrisburg, Pa.; a daughter, Sandra Boulter and her husband, Eric, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; a sister, Gemma Ferland of Tucson, Ariz., and two grandchildren, Geoffrey and Brett Boulter, and nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
