Elizabeth J. Magoon, 75, of 176 Columbus Ave., Berkshiretown Apartments, died Sunday at Albany N.Y.) Medical Center.
Born in Lawrence on Oct. 13, 1932, daughter of James W. and Elizabeth Brown Colpitts, she was educated in Methuen schools and graduated from Methuen High School in 1950. She also graduated from a hairdressing school in Boston.
She was a longtime resident of Pittsfield and also resided in Lanesborough at one time.
Mrs. Magoon was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Employment Security, retiring in 2005. She also was employed by the former Steiger's department store and by Sears.
She was a former member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lanesborough and enjoyed reading.
Her husband, Norman D. Magoon, whom she married Feb. 17, 1957, in Methuen, died Dec. 22, 1973.
She leaves a son, Robert G. Magoon of Hinsdale; two daughters, Carol A. Phelps of Lanesborough and Beth E. Norton of Pittsfield; and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- At the request of Elizabeth J. Magoon, who died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, there will be no services or calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Magoon may be made to the Tyler Norton Trust Fund, to be established for her grandson, in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
She also leaves her daughter-in-law, Susan Magoon, and sons-in-law, Jeffrey Norton and Bruce Murdock. "Gingy" will be greatly missed by her three grandchildren, Amy Murdock of Cheshire, Collin Murdock of Lanesborough and Tyler Norton of Pittsfield. She enjoyed spending time with her family and will be sadly missed by her good friend Kay.
