Jonathan P. Makowski

Jonathan P. Makowski, 45, of 20 East Housatonic St., died Saturday at home.

Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Dec. 6, 1962, son of Nancy Brown Makowski and the late Stanley A. Makowski, he was a 1981 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. He also took several accounting courses at Berkshire Community College.

Mr. Makowski was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier in North Adams for the past seven years. For 10 years before that, he was a house manager at the Berkshire Mental Health Center, and was a part-time employee of his mother's business, NJM Business Services, for the past 20 years.

He was a member of the Polish Community Club and volunteered for Quinn's Legacy Fundraisers, one year skating 95 miles for pledges. He was also a volunteer for the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind.

Besides his mother, of Dalton, he leaves three brothers, Stanley A. Makowski of New Boston, N.H., and Gerald and James Makowski, both of Dalton.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian burial for Jonathan P. Makowski, who died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes' Catholic Church, Main Street, Dalton, by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta.

Following cremation, burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in DeWitt, N.Y. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m. at BARTLETT-WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, and also on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. until the service. Among survivors are his nephews, David L. Makowski of Pittsfield and Paul A. and Daniel G. Makowski of New Boston, N.H., who will miss their Uncle Jon dearly, two sisters-in-law, Ann and Kristen, and close personal friends Mark and Betty Connally, David Jarem, and Jon and Rhonda DeWinkeleer, with whom Jon spent time.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jon's memory may be made to the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind, care of the funeral home, 525 Main St., Dalton, MA 01226. He was a volunteer for the Berkshire Benevolent Association for the Blind,
of which his mother is a member.
