Patrick A. Mele

Patrick A. Mele, 83, of 157 Dorchester Ave., died Monday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 2, 1924, son of Joseph and Nora Teti Mele, he attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1942.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 under the command of Gen. George S. Patton in Normandy, England and Belgium. He was an expert marksman.
Mr. Mele was employed by the city of Pittsfield in the school department for several years.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and a member of its Holy Name Society. For many years, he volunteered at the church and cooked at church bazaars and fundraisers.
He was a member of Fr. William Contino Italian-American War Veteran Post 75, Order of Sons of Italy ITAM Lodge 564, the Italian-American Club and its boccie and pitch leagues. He enjoyed horse racing and was a fan of the New York Yankees.
He and his wife, the former Antoinette "Bonnie" Bonacquisti, were married May 1, 1948 at Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph Mele of Pittsfield; four daughters, Pamela Harris of Pittsfield, Christine DiCenzo of Pittsfield, Patricia Mele of Hinsdale, and Maryteresa Hicks of Wayland; a sister, Mary Mancivalano of Pittsfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE --Services with military rites for Patrick A. Mele, who died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. at FLYNN AND DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. Fr. William Contino Italian-American War Veteran Post 75 will meet at the funeral home at 5:30 p.m. for a veterans ritual service. The Mount Carmel Church Holy Name Society and Ladies' Guild will meet at 6 p.m. for a prayer service. Mr. Mele also leaves six grandchildren, Michael DiCenzo Jr., Sara DiCenzo, James and Marissa Bogins and Luke and Simon Mele; two great-grandchildren, Marcus Lander and Michael DiCenzo III; four sons-in-law, Guy Harris, Michael DiCenzo, David Quail, David Hicks; and a daughter-in-law, Marie Mele.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Nicholas and Joseph Mele, and two sisters, Philomena Albano and Katherine Quaglietti. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church, care of the funeral home, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA, 01201.
