Olga Jarem, 88, of 209 Mountain Drive died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital.
She had resided at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown for 20 months.
Born in New York City on June 3, 1919, daughter of Paul and Helen Pytal Janeshewski, she was a graduate of Washington Irving High School and attended Baruch College, where she studied math. She moved to Pittsfield in 1961,
Mrs. Jarem was a homemaker. Before raising her family, she was employed in the actuarial department of the National Council on Compensation Insurance for 10 years.
She was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin in New York City and of the Ladies' Guild at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and an Elder Services volunteer at Providence Court.
She enjoyed swimming, yoga, the arts, cooking, hiking and visiting Tanglewood.
She and her husband, Michael S. Jarem, were married May 29, 1954, at the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin in New York City.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, David J. Jarem of Pittsfield; a daughter, Kim S.M. Jarem-Pearse of Littleton; two sisters, Anastasia "Stella" Kanciruk and Pauline Janeshewski, both of Greenport, Long Island, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Olga Jarem, who died Monday, Dec. 25, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Barnabas Fravel, rector of St. Nicholas' Russian Orthodox Church.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Jarem may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She also leaves her son-in-law, Raymond M. Pearse, and four grandchildren, Nakita and Daimien Jarem, and Noah and Joseph Pearse.
