Michelle C. Peets, 36, of 31 Weller Ave. died of cancer Dec. 22 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Nassau, the Bahamas, on Sept. 3, 1971, daughter of Arnold Carter and Sadie Dennis Carter Francis, she moved to Jamaica, West Indies, when she was 18 months old and to Boston at age 16. She was a 1989 graduate of Madison Park High School in Boston and earned her bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her master's in business administration from Western New England College. She moved to Pittsfield in 1996.
She served with the Massachusetts National Guard for five years.
Mrs. Peets was employed by General Dynamics as a software engineer. Before that, she worked for Tektronics as an engineer and for General Electric Co.
She was a member of Pilgrim Memorial Church and held past memberships in the National Society of Black Engineers and in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
She and her husband, William Peets, were married Aug. 14, 1999, in Agawam.
Besides her husband and father, of Boston, and mother, of Jamaica, she leaves a daughter, Trinity Cassidy Peets, at home; a son William Andrew Peets, at home; three sisters, Shamieka Francis, Nicketa Francis and Lecia Francis, all of Jamaica; two brothers, Cedric Carter of Atlanta and Fenton Francis of Jamaica; her stepfather, Tilbert Francis of Jamaica; and her stepmother, Emma Carter of Boston.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Michelle C. Peets, who died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2007, will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at Pilgrim Memorial Church by the Rev. Corey Loder, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Mrs. Peets also leaves a host of extended family members, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, and many good friends, co-workers and her church family. If friends desire, donations may be made to PBS or to Pilgrim Memorial Church, both in care of DWYER FUNERAL HOME, in her memory.
