Claude Irene St. Jean Rock

Pittsfield - Claude Irene St. Jean Rock, 89, formerly of 21 Norman Ave., died Tuesday at Hillcrest Commons, where she resided since 2006.
Born in St. Felix de Kingsey, Québec, Canada, on Jan. 6, 1918, daughter of Remi and Eliane Bibeau Gagnon, she attended the Convent school for girls in St. Felix de Kingsey and also schools in Montréal.
She came to the United States in 1947 and settled in Pittsfield in 1954.
Mrs. Rock was employed by various sewing factories. She also was employed by St. Luke's Hospital, Springside Nursing Home, and the former Dalton Convalescent Nursing home as a nursing assistant. For a time, she also operated her own sewing business.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and the former Notre Dame Church.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens and Golden Agers, and enjoyed sewing, crocheting and making photo albums and scrapbooks.
Her first husband, Octave St. Jean, died in December 1981
Her second husband, James H. Rock Sr., whom she married June 12, 1969, died Dec. 20, 1988.
Mrs. Rock leaves a son, Claude St. John of Albany, N.Y.; four stepsons, Edward Rock and James Rock Jr., both of Lakeland, Fla., Joseph Rock of Aloha, Ore., and Richard Rock of Manchester, Conn.; two daughters, Gaetane Sargent of Pittsfield and Claudette Reardon of Dalton; seven grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL SERVICES -- Services for Mrs. Claude Gagnon St. Jean Rock, who died on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2008, will take place Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church with the Msgr. Michael Shershanovich, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Friday, from 4 to 6 p.m. Mrs. Rock was predeceased by her seven brothers who had nicknamed her "the little sister"; a great-grandson, Michael Phillips; and a niece, Berthilla St. Jean Bussieres, whom she helped to rear.
She is survived by many stepgreat-grandchildren and by a great-great-granddaughter.
