PITTSFIELD - Priscilla K. Shields, 86, formerly of Stockbridge, died early Monday morning, Jan. 7,
2008, at her home at Berkshire Place on South Street in
Pittsfield.
Born in South Williamstown on Oct. 11, 1921, she was the daughter of Alvah and Mary E. Steele Knapp. She graduated from local schools and later received a bachelor of arts degree from Temple University in Philadelphia, a master’s degree from Smith College in Northampton and from American International College in Springfield.
A dedicated educator, Mrs. Shields was a reading
specialist and taught in the Southern Berkshire Regional School District for more than 15 years. Prior to teaching, she had worked at General Electric in Pittsfield as an assistant engineer and, during World War II, for the American RedCross in Alaska.
She enjoyed playing bridge, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Her husband, Lawrence Shields, whom she married in Stockbridge in 1963, is deceased.
She leaves two daughters, Jane Sutton of Sherborn and Nancy Piatczyc of Williamstown; a sister, Virginia Berry of Housatonic; two stepchildren, Richard Shields of Weston, Va., and Carolyn Fabricant of North Adams, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Funeral services for the late Priscilla Shields will be private.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 10, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge.
