PITTSFIELD - A. Frederick Peck, 85, of June Street, Worcester, formerly of Pittsfield, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Rose Monahan Hospice Residence in Worcester.
Born in Pittsfield on Oct. 9, 1922, son of Allen and Catherine Sunderman Peck, he graduated from Pittsfield High School. He moved to Worcester in 1998.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served with the 564th Technical School Squadron in Atlantic City, N.J., in 1942, then attended the technical training school in Sioux Falls, N.D., before transferring to Boca Raton, Fla. He graduated as a radio technician and operator and was promoted to the rank of corporal.
An auditor, Mr. Peck was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a longtime member of Berkshire Hills Country Club and volunteered at the Berkshire Humane Society. While in Worcester, he was a volunteer at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and playing golf.
His wife, the former Virginia Smith, whom he married May 5, 1951, died in 1998.
He leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne P. and Thomas F. Noone of Worcester, and two granddaughters, Katy Elizabeth Noone and Alison Marie Noone, both of Brighton.
FUNERAL NOTICE - Calling hours for A. Frederick Peck, who died Sunday, Jan. 13, will be tomorrow, from 5 to 8 p.m. at O'Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Ave., Worcester. On Thursday, Jan. 17, a calling hour will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service, at Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East St., Pittsfield.
Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery. Contributions may be made to UMass-Memorial Hospice, 650 Lincoln St., Worcester, MA 01605 or to the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas St., Worcester, MA 01608. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers of UMass-Memorial Hospice and of Rose Monahan Hospice Residence for their kind care to Fred during his illness.
