Judith A. Tauer, 70

PITTSFIELD - Judith A. Tauer, 70, of 640 Peck's Road died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 24, 1937, daughter of Ernest W. and Nellie Hespelein Phillips, she attended schools in Lanesborough and Pittsfield.

Mrs. Tauer was employed as a waitress for 45 years in the Pittsfield area, including 20 years at the former Rosa Restaurant on North Street. She also worked for three years in Anchorage, Alaska, and for 30 years was an Avon representative.

She enjoyed playing horseshoes, making ceramics, canning and freezing vegetables from her garden, making jams and jellies, and writing poetry.

She and her husband, Robert L. Tauer, celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary Dec. 29.

Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Earl B. Pemble Jr. of Pittsfield; three daughters, Judith Furey and her husband, Stephen, of Lanesborough, Susan Pemble of Pittsfield and Deborah Mae Zieba and her husband, Michael, of Adams; two stepsons, David Tauer of Dracut and Jonathan Tauer of Northampton; a stepsister, Audrey Robitaille of Pittsfield; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Peter Phillips.

FUNERAL NOTICE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Judith A. Tauer will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Charles' Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.

There will be no calling hours. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the lower church hall. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
