Pittsfield - Claire B. Walsh, 84, a former longtime resident of Bishop Parkway, died Wednesday at Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation.
Born in Holyoke on Aug. 30, 1923, daughter of Frank and Jane Swords Borlen, she attended the local schools there and was a 1940 graduate of Holyoke High School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Walsh was employed for a time at MassMutual Insurance Company before moving to Pittsfield with her husband, John P. Walsh, in 1946.
A longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church, she co-chaired the BCC Hands Across America Scholarship Committee.
She and her husband, Vincent E. Walsh, whom she married June 29, 1946, died April 3, 2000. They had traveled to six continents.
Mrs. Walsh leaves two sons, John P. Walsh of Pittsfield and Mark J. Walsh of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; three daughters, Rosalind W. Ryan of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary Jane Hanlon of Pittsfield, and Regina Walsh Troast of Carlisle; a sister, Grace B. O'Donnell of Holyoke; and 10 grandchildren. Another son, Peter V. Walsh, died in 1966, and twin sons, Patrick and Timothy Walsh, died as infants.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Claire B. Walsh, who died Jan. 30, 2008, will be held Saturday at 8 a.m. from the DEVANNY CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BCC Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Walsh also leaves her grandchildren, Patrick, Victoria, Kathleen, Kevin, Sheila, and Sean Walsh, and Matthew, Peter, and Sarah Ryan, and John G. Troast III; her daughters-in-law, Terry (John), Maureen (Mark); her sons-in-law, Joseph P. Ryan, Terrence Hanlon, and John "Jack" Troast II; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frank Borlen. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.
