Thomas Benedict Janes, 85, of 2165 Tupper St., Montreal, formerly of Pittsfield, died July 30 at Montreal General Hospital.
Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, on Aug. 23, 1915, son of Francis and Josephine Wilson Janes, he attended Pittsfield High School. He was a resident of Pittsfield from May 1929 to October 1958.
Mr. Janes was an Army veteran of World War II.
He retired from Reddy Memorial Hospital in Montreal in 1980 after 22 years of service. In Pittsfield, he worked for Western Mass. Electric Co.
Mr. Janes was a communicant of St. Francis Church in Montreal and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed walking for miles every day until two months ago. He also enjoyed reading.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy A. Goddeau; two daughters, Jacquelyn Weatherwax of Pittsfield and MaryJo Romero of Castro Valley, Calif.; a son, Thomas H. Janes of San Francisco; a sister, Margaret Cayouette of the state of Florida; a brother, Francis Janes of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
