Florence S. Hazen, 81, of Continental Road, Narragansett, R.I., died Tuesday at South County Hospital in Wakefield. She was the mother of Carol Cohen of Pittsfield.
Born in Providence, R.I., daughter of Irving J. and Ida Samdperil Glantz, she graduated from Hope High School. She attended Cornell University and moved to Narragansett 28 years ago.
She was a former member of Temple Emanu-El and its sisterhood, and a member of the Miriam Hospital Women's Association. She was a former gray lady, volunteering at Miriam Hospital, and was active in her children's PTA. She enjoyed reading, playing golf, swimming and playing the piano. She also enjoyed knitting and needlepoint.
Besides her daughter, she leaves her husband, Louis Hazen; a son, Michael Hazen of Bellmore, N.Y.; a brother, Leon J. Glantz of Tarzana, Calif.; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral service is at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at SUGARMAN-SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 458 Hope St., Providence. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Memorial observance will be at her late residence, Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, 2 to 4 p.m., and Sunday through Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
