William B. Wilhelm, 81

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — William Banks Wilhelm Sr., 81, of 33 Leroi Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Beaumont, Texas, in 1929, a son of Paul L. Wilhelm Sr. and Edith Banks Wilhelm, he moved to Independence, Kan., at an early age and graduated from Independence High School, where he was class president. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor of science degree in business and mechanical engineering.
He served in the Army Reserves and was discharged as a first lieutenant.
Mr. Wilhelm joined General Electric Co. as a mechanical engineer, moving to Pittsfield in the early 1960s, where he worked in GE Ordnance as a manager in quality control until his retirement.
He leaves his wife, the former Dorothy J.Gigliotti; one son, William B. Wilhelm Jr. of Washington, D.C.; a stepson, John Hubbard of California; a stepdaughter, Debra Lydon of South Boston; four stepgrandchildren, Christian and Nicholas Lydon, and Evan and Payge Hubbard; and nieces and nephews, including Margo Wilhelm of California.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul L. Wilhelm Jr.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Funeral services for Mr. Wilhelm took place Friday, Nov. 12, at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals Central Chapel, 74 Marshall St, North Adams, with Deacon Bruce Ziter officiating. Burial followed in Southview Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Wilhelm's memory may be made to the American Red Cross or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
