NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Dave Wellington scored 31 points Wednesday to lead PhoneBros to a 95-90 win over Cold Hearts in the John Giorgi Summer Basketball League A Division.   Julius Woods scored 30 and grabbed 14 rebounds, and Mike Taylor had a double-double with 17 poitns and 13 boards.   Sean Harrigan led Cold Hearts with 26 points and 10 rebounds.   Shaq Ardrey and Tank Roberson added 23 and 17 points, respectively. Pittsfield Babe Ruth to Host Regional Championship

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Pittsfield Babe Ruth has been chosen to host the 2023 New England Regional Babe Ruth tournament for the 13–15-year-old age group from July 21 to 25 at Wahconah Park.   Eight teams from across New England will travel to Pittsfield in July to compete in the tournament, which will include Pittsfield Babe Ruth’s 15-year-old All-Star Team.   The event will have 12 games of pool play from Friday through Sunday. Little League All-Star Play Opens on Saturday

No Lifeguards at Onota Lake This Season

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Lifeguards will not be present to monitor the water and related activities like swimming at Burbank Park (Onota Lake) this summer.   The city stated that they have had difficulties finding and hiring qualified lifeguards.   The city began a search for qualified lifeguards in March of 2023, and after several months of unsuccessful attempts to fill the lifeguard positions, the city is unable to provide lifeguarding for the 2023 season.   Those who choose to swim and/or partake in any water-related activities, will be doing so at their own risk. Striking Out Cancer Event Moved to July 1

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- After Saturday's rain forced a postponement, the Striking Out in the Berkshires Jimmy Fund fund-raiser will try again on Saturday, July 1 at Clapp Park.   Players of any ability are welcome to participate in a charity baseball and softball games.   So are players with no ability at all.   "I've had some people call and text me and ask, 'Do you have to be a baseball player?' BCC Alumni Night at the Pittsfield Suns

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Berkshire Community College (BCC) will hold an Alumni Night on Saturday, July 15 at the Pittsfield Suns game.    All BCC alums receive free admission to the game, held at Wahconah Park, located at 105 Wahconah St, Pittsfield. County Youth Soccer League Wraps Up Spring Season

LENOX, Mass. -- Three Berkshire County Youth Soccer League teams have qualified for the Massachusettts Tournament of Champions this weekend in Lancaster.   Two girls teams and one boys team are advancing to the state tourney based on their performance throughout the spring: the 7th- and 8th-grade Lenox Gold girls, the 5th- and 6th-grade North Adams Breakers girls and the 5th- and 6th-grade Williamstown Vipers boys.   The BCYSL held its season-ending tournament on Saturday at Lenox Memorial Middle and High School, with championships decided in seven different groups.   Winners included:   Boys 5/6 B-Cup - Williamstown 1, Lenox 1 (Williamstown wins on penalty kicks). Pittsfield Parks Commission Visits Site of Proposed Farm at Springside Park

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Roots Rising leaders were immediately enamored with the prospect of having Springside Park as its home base.

On Wednesday, the farming organization had a site visit with the Parks Commission to give a visual explanation of their plans.  The proposed location is next to the Chestnut seed orchard.

"When we first walked into Springside, we all kind of lit up," Program Manager Lauren Piotrowski said.

"I mean, any place that we build our farm is going to be great but something so centrally located is going to be a great resource for the City of Pittsfield and we really want to invest where it will have the most impact on Pittsfield."

Pittsfield to Host Public meeting on the Wahconah Park Project

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The City of Pittsfield’s Wahconah Park Restoration Committee will be hosting a public meeting on Thursday, June 15 at 7:00p.m.    This meeting will take place at the Berkshire Athenaeum located at 1 Wendell Avenue in the auditorium.   At this meeting, the Wahconah Park Restoration Committee and the design team that is working with the city will share an overview of the project. Attendees will also have an opportunity to share their thoughts on the future vision for an improved facility. This meeting is the first in a series of workshops that will be offered to the public.   Light refreshments will be provided.

Statewide MassDEP Air Quality Advisory

BOSTON — Due to smoke from Canadian wildfires that continue to influence our area, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is issuing a statewide air quality alert effective from midnight, June 6, 2023, until midnight, June 7, 2023.    Currently, air quality conditions in North Berkshire are "Moderate" while in Central Berkshire it is "Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups."   Smoke is expected to enter western sections of the state later tonight and spread eastward through much of the state during the overnight and early morning hours on Tuesday. Elevated levels are forecast to remain in the state for much of the day on Tuesday.
