PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Police responded to two shootings in the city overnight Monday and arrested one suspect who seen shooting from the hood of a car.

Jesus Lugo, 37, of Pittsfield was taken into custody after police said he led them on foot chase.

At approximately 8:35 p.m., Officer Brennon Stockton said he observed a black sedan driving west on Linden Street with a man on top of the hood, and shooting a firearm in the direction of a Linden Street address.

Stockton observed the individual on the hood shoot his weapon five times and immediately initiated a motor vehicle stop. The suspect on the hood fled on foot through the back yards in the area. Multiple units converged in the area to search for him.

Officer Bryan Betters observed the suspect run into a Robbins Avenue address. A short time later, the suspect exited the property with a gunshot wound to one of his hands, police said.

Lugo was identified him as the same person that was shooting from the hood of the black sedan. He was taken to Berkshire Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. He is in the custody of the Pittsfield Police Department on firearms related charges.

The woman who was driving the vehicle is not cooperating with the investigation at this time. This is not believed to be a random act as she and Lugo are acquaintances. The vehicle involved was subsequently towed to the Pittsfield Police Department for processing.

Ballistic evidence was found in the area where Lugo was observed shooting. The firearm believed to have been used during the commission of this crime has also been recovered. This is an active investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.

While this incident was still being investigated, officers were alerted to another shots-fired incident that occurred on Daniels Avenue at 12:53 a.m. on Tuesday. There were no injuries related to that incident which is also under investigation.

Anyone with information on either incident is asked to contact the Detective Bureau at 413-448-9705, the tip line (413-448-9706), or by texting PITTIP and your message to 847411 (TIP411).
