Rotary Club of Pittsfield Announces Kagan Award Recipients

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Melissa Mazzeo and Bernie Klem are the 44th recipients of the Dr. David B. Kagan Award.  
 
This award was established in 1977, in memory of Dr. David B. Kagan, a long-time Pittsfield Rotarian and community citizen. 
 
The award has been given annually to one female and one male from Central Berkshire each year, who have made significant contributions to their community through volunteer activities.  
 
The recipients are chosen the Kagan Award Committee Co-Chairs, Edward Forfa and John Hudnall. A $200 stipend to the charity of the recipient's choice and a plaque are awarded.
 
Forfa opened the ceremony held at Mazzeo's Restaurant on June 24th. He introduced Joan Kagan, Dr. Kagan's daughter, who was in attendance. Dave Hall introduced award recipient Bernie Klem, and Joan DiMartino introduced Melissa Mazzeo. 
 
Closing remarks were provided by event co-chair John Hudnall.
 
According to a press release, the awardees activities have created lasting change in the lives of individuals and families in the community. These activities that have made this community a better place to live, work and raise a family.
