The door on the south side of the church was damaged by fire.
PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Two men have been charged in an arson incident committed early in August at St. Joseph's Church.

Michael Innis, 53, and Brock Randolph, 34, were each charged with one count of burning a building. They were arraigned Friday in Central Berkshire District Court.

Police say both men currently reside in Pittsfield but have ties to the eastern part of the state.

The fire on the south door of the North Street church was discovered by a patrol officer at about 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 4. The officer requested a response from the Pittsfield Fire Department.

According to police, it was readily apparent that the fire had been intentionally set. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze but the wooden door sustained significant burn marks on both the interior and exterior.

Police say it took a determined investigative effort to identify and charge the two suspects and that additional charges may be forthcoming.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or wishes to provide additional information is asked to contact the lead investigator, Detective Kim Bertelli-Hunt, at 413-448-9700, Ext. 532.
