PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Hockey players from Pittsfield, some currently local and others traveling from across the   country, will gather on Friday, Nov. 26, at 4 p.m. for a memorial hockey game in honor of Marc Parrott at the Boys & Girls Club of the Berkshires.

Parrott passed away on Aug. 10, leaving a legacy as a devoted husband and father. He was a native of Pittsfield and longtime Boston sports fanatic. He was a local baseball and hockey standout in his early years playing in the South Little League and Boys Club Hockey Program. Parrott was also a fixture in the community as the co-owner of A-Mart on North Street.

The memorial hockey game idea came together almost immediately after word spread of Marc's untimely passing.

"Marc made a lifelong impression on me as a young boy and many others," said John Hinkell, one of the memorial hockey game organizers who also attended Dawes School with Parrott and followed his footsteps in the Boys Club Hockey Program and South Little League.

"Marc was a leader, a genuine person, and mature well beyond his years. Marc was always the coolest kid in school, a natural athlete that everyone wanted to emulate."

"Hockey is a brotherhood," Shaun Risley added. "As kids we played hours of street hockey, pond hockey, and organized ice hockey in the Boys Club hockey program.

There was no social media or video games in those days, so street hockey games would start with one phone call and the phone tree would explode with the announcement that a game would start at noon on Saturday at the South Junior High School tennis courts. Players would convene on foot, bike, or occasional parental drop off, with stick in hand and bottle of water for an afternoon of Pittsfield's finest street hockey players. There were no referees, calls were made on the fly as there was no time for disagreement because players were already running to score the next goal.

Some of those same players from the early street hockey days, who have not laced up skates in decades will be dusting off old equipment and sharpening skates. For those who have moved out of Berkshire County will be catching flights or driving the distance to congregate together again. Each participant is joining this memorial game in honor of Parrott, a fallen hockey brother.

One of the game's organizers, Paul Bowlby, said they don't know if this will be a one-time memorial hockey game or an annual event. The goal this year is to come together as friends, schoolmates, and former athletes to pay our respects to Parrott's family and pay tribute to a special friend, one who made a lasting impression on all of us.

The game is open to the public and there will be no admission fee for those attending. Currently, there is a 100% mask mandate for spectators and players. After the national anthem is sung by Alexa Hilts and a short moment of silence, team captains will present commemorative jerseys to Marc's wife Holly and their daughters in a pre-game ceremony.

Marc's daughter Kaitlyn, who is also a Boston sports fan and attended many games with her dad, will be coaching and on the bench with the players. Marc's brother Ray will have the honor of dropping the puck.

Following the game, family and players extend an invitation to Marc's friends, former schoolmates, and acquaintances to attend a reception in his honor at the Berkshire Hills Country Club at 7:30 p.m. Appetizers will be served and a cash bar available.
